Craftsmanship that Discards Stereotypes and Creates New Value
Shuji Nakagawa, the 3rd generation of Nakagawa Mokkougei, actively engages in creating innovative works while inheriting woodworking techniques, centered on traditional bucket making at the Hira Studio in Shiga Prefecture. With a style different from his father, Kiyotsugu Nakagawa, a holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property, he incorporates modern and bold design into woodwork. Starting with the "Wooden Bucket Tea Room," which he undertook aiming to create craft architecture utilizing the structural beauty and functionality of wooden buckets, he creates new value with the ability to discard stereotypes and flexibly grasp manufacturing, and craftsmanship that updates creativity.
