CONFECTIONERY
Delicate Seasonal Steamed Sweets Continuing to Color Kyoto's Tea Ceremonies
A confectionery shop that has continued to make Kyoto sweets in Nishijin, Kyoto, for 140 years. It boasts a "myth/history" of tracing its lineage back to Lin Jingyin, who is said to have come to Japan from China and made the first manju (steamed bun) in the country. The machiya townhouse from the early Taisho era, designated as a Kyoto City Historical Design Building, is also highly atmospheric. Their "Seasonal Steamed Sweets," highly valued in tea ceremonies, are edible art whose varieties change with the shifting calendar.
