“Tableware&Tools” Award
The Everyday Premium Quality Brought by the Elegantly Shining Blue of Geppaku-yu (Moon White Glaze)
Asahiyaki was built in Uji, Kyoto, during the Keicho era. It is considered one of the Enshu Seven Kilns under the guidance of the tea master Kobori Enshu, drawing from the lineage of "Kirei Sabi" favored by Enshu. "Kirei Sabi" is an aesthetic sense that adds bright elegance to "Sabi" = the beauty found in the loneliness of growing old. The current 16th generation, Hosai Matsubayashi, opens up new frontiers such as Celadon Glaze Flow while focusing on the production of works with Geppaku-yu Flow (Moon White Glaze) that possess a modern atmosphere.
