An Art Experience in a Mansion: A Garden Retaining the Vestiges of a Court
Built in 1933 as the private residence of the imperial Asaka family, the main building opened as an art museum in 1983. Prominent designers of French Art Deco, including Henri Rapin, were appointed for the interior design of the main rooms, and the building was designated a National Important Cultural Property in 2015. The gardens, comprising lawn, Japanese, and Western garden areas, offer changing seasonal expressions despite being located in the heart of the city.
