The Joy of Wearing the Techniques of Venerable Treasures as Modern Kumihimo

Since its founding in Ueno Ikenohata in 1652, the shop has continued to make hand-dyed, hand-braided kumihimo (braided cords). The techniques and designs used to create new works, based on years of researching cultural properties, are truly one-of-a-kind. Among Japanese traditional clothing enthusiasts, it is highly reputed for the delicate texture and comfortable tightening feel born of artisan skills. Kumihimo classes are held in various locations, and at the Kagurazaka store, a museum and kumihimo experiences are increasingly popular with tourists to Japan. The Ueno main store mainly sells traditional Japanese attire featuring a colorful array of obijime, while the Kagurazaka store focuses on Western clothing. They also accept custom orders for interior decorations and artworks.
