To the Place Where the Essence of Time is Born
Morioka City was introduced as a noteworthy travel destination in the New York Times. Its neighboring town, "Shizukuishi," is the place where Grand Seiko is born. It has a tour course for the "Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi," where the manufacturing workshop is located, and because you can actually observe skilled watchmakers assembling watches, it has become a destination that watch lovers from home and abroad long for. "In Iwate, there remains a culture of respecting handwork, such as folk crafts and handicrafts. Also, the severe winters are similar to Switzerland. But more than anything, this place is loved because it is amidst beautiful nature," says Yukinori Kato, President and CEO of Morioka Seiko Instruments. To make use of the surrounding nature, about 37% of the site is green space including the forest that has been there since its founding. Occasionally, Japanese serows and rabbits also visit the workshop. "Looking at the trees in the forest every day, I feel the transition of time just from that. That is the very essence of time, and it is also the message we want to express through our watches." People wish to visit the place where watches are born because stories dwell within the watches themselves. The place where you can touch the beautiful time woven by Grand Seiko, that is Shizukuishi.
